Christianna on dad's shoulders in the snow

Winter 1987 (probably)

#11 – April 24, 1986
Kastri, Greece

How time flies. It seems like yesterday when I sat and wrote about your language advancements! I’m not going to write in general today, rather a specific incident that I wasn’t able to see. You went with your father to Nea Makri, with Sophia and Andriko and other people – Sunday picnic, more or less.

Apparently, you called μπαμπά 3 times and wanted to “tell” him something concrete, he was busy talking though and didn’t notice. You covered your eyes with your arm and put your head down. At some point, someone said, “η κόρη σου έχει παράπονο, σε φώναζε.”*

Μπαμπά** looked and said, “what is it, sweet Christianna?” As you lifted your head from your arm, you looked at him, sniffled and then cried with all your heart, as though to say, “why didn’t you listen to me? Why aren’t you talking to me?!”

Little Christianna – I’ll tell you a secret sweetness, your mommy is more than likely, almost positively, carrying a new brother or sister. I hope you will be loving and good to each other and for each other.

Christianna’s Notes & Translations

* “Η κόρη σου έχει παράπονο, σε φώναζε,” roughly translates to, “Your daughter has a complaint, she was calling for you.”
**”Μπαμπά” is Greek for “dad,” pronounced “ba-ba.”
